Unit 01- Design Foundation
This unit introduces the fundamentals of event design, exploring its significance and the design process. We will encourage students to research led practice. Students will delve into the core elements of design (line, shape, form, texture, space) and principles (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, unity). We will explore color theory, understanding how color creates mood and meaning.
Unit 02- Production of Event Design
This unit focuses on the practical aspects of event production. Students will explore production techniques, including material qualities, fabrication methods, and technical aspects of trussing, lighting, and sound. They will delve into the world of fabrics, furnishings, and floral design through interactive workshops. The unit also emphasizes the importance of vendor management and budgeting, guiding students in choosing the right vendors and pricing their services effectively.
Unit 03- Presentation Methods
This unit equips students with essential presentation skills for event designers. Students will develop proficiency in sketching techniques for rapid communication of design ideas. They will also explore graphic design principles, including branding, typography, and layout, to create compelling visual presentations. Finally, the unit will cover production design, focusing on the creation of accurate scale drawings, layouts, and construction documents for successful event implementation.
Unit 04- Final Design Project
This unit culminates in a series of self-directed design projects, allowing students to apply their learned skills to real-world scenarios. Students will conduct in-depth research, explore innovative solutions, and develop comprehensive design proposals.
Portfolio - Through faculty guidance and peer feedback, students will refine their designs and create a professional portfolio showcasing their creative and technical abilities.
